Observation Works:

The art I make is inspired by the need to recreate a moment, in an attempt to discover its honesty. Frequently this is not what I see, but what is felt and how people around me respond. It is a memory recreated, a story told and told again until the truth is revealed.

Observation Works is a print series that focuses on my search for symmetry in urban living, by breaking down elaborate scenes into basic design elements. I am Exploring the interaction of black and white, positive and negative space, and the relationships that emerge from within them, creating an abstracted map of time and place.

A further development in these observations is to cut out aspects of each smaller print and reconstruct them to form new compositions that will create narratives. This collage technique has been revealing a display of symmetry that has been unveiling itself throughout the process of this series.

The Animation Sketches are another extension of the Observation Works. In this series of animations I am tearing apart the two dimensional form to expand on the issues that I discovered throughout the printing process.

The cycles of cities has been an emerging concern in my work, that ongoing attempt to find balance and symmetry within urban living. There is a fine balance that exists between our natural environment and the man made environment we create within it, a constant merging of man made objects and nature.
